MUNIWARD
Typeface Creation
2025
Adobe Illustrator, Glyphs Mini, Adobe InDesign
The more time I spent on various projects on Adobe Creative Platforms, the more I began to especially love the finetuning aspects of working with typefaces. This is my first typeface I have created; Muniward.
Originally inspired by the fluid, avante-garde, and altogether fun aesthetic of the MUNI logo, this typeface was birthed. Eventually, the letters and stylistic choices began taking on lives of their own and ultimately becoming a unique form when all together. As the designer, I recommend using tight leading to emphasize the connectivity of the letters to resemble one continuous form. Predominately made as a decorative display font, Muniward is designed to be appealing at large-scale and legible on a small-scale.
This was a ton of fun to make as I started from complete scratch, and having total freedom to shape each character was both a challenge and a reward. I first worked on Adobe Illustrator with just the “M”, “U”, “N”, “I” rough outlines from the original logo, then taking it to Glyphs Mini to imagine every letter’s inspiration from the former letters, and finally ensuring each letter fits the motif of connecting to the next with equal descenders, ascenders, and curves.
A WORM’S WORLD
Written and Illustrated Children’s BookWhile I have finished the font, I am currently working on a playful project in publishing a children’s book called A Worm’s World that depicts the life of a worm in the current state of the world. It showcases my font as well as my own illustrations in an accordion fold pocket-size book that I am excited to finalize and mockup!
